Man Utd Set to Launch £87m Bid for Crystal Palace Midfield Star Adam Wharton

Manchester United are preparing a blockbuster £87m bid to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, in what could be one of the most significant Premier League transfers ahead of the 2026-27 season, according to reports from Spain.

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United owners INEOS are determined to strengthen the Red Devils’ midfield, seeing it as a top priority. Senior correspondent Ben Jacobs notes that United could look to sign two central midfielders next summer, with Wharton emerging as their key target.

Wharton, 21, has impressed with his maturity and on-field intelligence, making him an ideal candidate to inject youth and energy into United’s midfield. With Casemiro’s contract set to expire next summer, United are anticipating a potential exit and want to act swiftly. Amorim supports the move, believing Wharton can provide the boost the squad needs under his management.

Crystal Palace, however, are unlikely to sell one of their brightest talents cheaply, as Wharton’s contract runs until 2029. The £87m figure is reportedly the minimum that could persuade Palace to enter negotiations. United also face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham, all keen to secure the Englishman’s services, making the deal a high-stakes pursuit.

If United succeed, Wharton could form a dynamic partnership in midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes, creating a powerful combination for the 2026-27 campaign. There is also the possibility of adding a second midfielder—such as Elliot Anderson or Carlos Baleba—to further strengthen the squad. This move could set United up for years of midfield dominance if executed correctly.
