- “Liverpool’s January Gamble: Will Marc Guehi Finally Arrive at Anfield?” – New Insider Update Drops
Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is once again in the spotlight as the January transfer window approaches. The Reds came close to securing the defender just three months ago, but Palace pulled the plug on deadline day, leaving the deal unfinished. Now, with defensive issues mounting at Anfield, fresh reports suggest the club may revisit their interest—though the situation is far from straightforward.
Spanish journalist Bruno Alemany recently claimed that Guehi’s move to Liverpool is “almost completed,” sending fans into a frenzy. However, a more cautious update has emerged from The Athletic, which reports that Crystal Palace are unlikely to sanction a mid-season sale. According to reliable journalist Gregg Evans, Liverpool still admire the England international, but any January deal faces major obstacles based on contract timing and club strategy.
Evans’ analysis points to a major sticking point: Guehi has only seven months left on his contract. That means Palace risk losing him for free in the summer, but they may still decide to keep him for their survival push. For the player himself, leaving in January may not be ideal either—he could secure a higher contract as a free agent and ensure consistent minutes ahead of the World Cup. These factors combine to make a winter transfer “improbable,” even though Liverpool remain keen.
Yet the Reds may not have the luxury of patience. Arne Slot currently has just three senior centre-backs available after Giovanni Leoni’s season-ending injury, and Liverpool have already conceded 20 goals in the Premier League—an alarming figure this early in the campaign. Waiting until the summer could backfire if another club swoops in with an offer Palace find acceptable. Meanwhile, statistics show Guehi outperforming Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté in key defensive areas like interceptions, recoveries, and tackles.
Convincing Crystal Palace to part with their captain mid-season will be difficult, but with Liverpool struggling defensively and depth issues growing, the temptation to push for a January deal may be too strong to ignore. The coming weeks could determine whether the Reds bring in a much-needed reinforcement—or risk letting one of their top targets slip away o
