Paul Scholes has sharply criticized Liverpool manager Arne Slot, describing his recent off-field behavior as “classless” and inappropriate for a coach whose season was still underway. The former Manchester United midfielder argued that Slot’s decision to DJ in Ibiza before the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign projected the wrong image during a difficult period for the club.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes questioned the professionalism of the timing, insisting that such actions reflected poorly on Liverpool’s standards. According to him, the behavior suggested a lack of focus at a moment when the team required leadership and discipline.

Scholes stated that his criticism was not about nightlife itself, but about what it symbolized during a season Liverpool were struggling to control. He described it as disrespectful to the club, the supporters, and the ongoing campaign, emphasizing that managers must set the tone, especially when results are declining.

Liverpool’s current slump, however, extends beyond Slot’s off-field decisions. The team has suffered a dramatic loss of form, losing six of their last seven Premier League matches. This downturn has raised concerns about deeper structural issues within the squad and coaching setup.

Key players have also failed to meet expectations. Mohamed Salah has experienced an unusually inconsistent spell, Ibrahima Konaté’s performances have regressed, and even captain Virgil van Dijk has come under scrutiny. Persistent injuries and a squad transition period have further disrupted the team’s rhythm and tactical cohesion.

Slot now finds himself under growing pressure as the club matches unwanted records for consecutive defeats. Fans and analysts alike are calling for urgent improvements, with some questioning whether the manager has the authority or strategy to reverse the decline.

The situation has also reignited speculation about potential future leadership changes. Among supporters, the idea of Xabi Alonso returning to Anfield continues to gain traction, reflecting both dissatisfaction with current results and nostalgia for a figure widely respected for his footballing intelligence and Liverpool connections.
