List of 5 Managers Liverpool Could Replace Arne Slot With Emerges – It’s Underwhelming
There is growing tension at Anfield this season, and the mood around Liverpool is shifting quickly. What was supposed to be a confident title defence has instead turned into a dramatic early struggle, with the Reds falling far below expectations. As results continue to worsen, pressure on Arne Slot has intensified. Now, a new report revealing five potential replacements has only fueled frustration among supporters.
Liverpool entered the 2025/26 campaign with high hopes. After winning the Premier League in Slot’s debut season and strengthening the squad with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, many believed the club would push strongly for another title. Instead, their season has unravelled. Five league defeats in their last six matches have dragged them down to eighth in the table, leaving fans stunned and desperate for answers.
Despite the poor run, reports claim Liverpool’s hierarchy still supports Slot. They believe he can turn things around, but that has not stopped speculation from resurfacing. According to journalist Lewis Steele, the club’s old list of managerial candidates from Jurgen Klopp’s departure in 2024 has quietly come back into conversations. For many fans, that list is far from inspiring.
The first name linked is Sebastian Hoeness, who has earned admiration for transforming Stuttgart into a competitive force in Germany. Under his leadership, they qualified for the Champions League and won the DFB Cup, a remarkable turnaround from the relegation battles they previously endured. Hoeness is respected, but some Liverpool supporters feel he lacks the profile required for a club with their ambitions.
Roberto De Zerbi, once considered one of the most exciting young managers in Europe, is another option. His work at Brighton impressed many, and he is currently leading Marseille into a strong Ligue 1 title challenge. While De Zerbi plays attractive football, questions remain about his consistency and ability to manage a squad filled with world-class talents and high expectations.
Michel, Girona’s highly rated coach, also appears on the list. His rise at Girona drew global attention when he drove the club to a shocking third-place finish in La Liga. However, their following season saw a significant dip, as Girona collapsed to 16th. While Michel is admired for his tactical creativity, Liverpool fans seem unsure whether he has enough elite-level experience for the Premier League pressure cooker.
Ernesto Valverde is another candidate, known for his previous spell at Barcelona and his success rebuilding Athletic Bilbao. Valverde has enjoyed a strong and steady run in Spain, proving himself as a reliable and respected coach. Still, some Liverpool supporters feel his approach may be too conservative compared to the high-energy style the club traditionally thrives on.
The final name is Luciano Spalletti, who now manages Juventus. Spalletti is one of the most accomplished coaches on the list, having guided Napoli to a famous Serie A title and earning widespread praise for his tactical intelligence. Yet even with his credentials, many Liverpool fans feel Spalletti would not represent a sufficiently bold or long-term appointment.
The reaction from supporters has been overwhelmingly negative. Fans on social media described the list as “worrying,” “terrible,” and “uninspiring.” Many prefer keeping Slot over hiring any of the five candidates. One supporter wrote, “Yeah do not sack Slot under any circumstances,” echoing a sentiment shared by a large portion of the fanbase.
This dissatisfaction stems from two issues: the desire for a world-class manager if changes must be made, and the belief that Slot deserves more time after what he achieved last season. Liverpool fans are passionate, vocal, and demanding, and they expect a shortlist that reflects the size and history of their club.
For now, Liverpool remain publicly committed to backing Slot. But the reality is clear: the team needs results quickly. A few more poor performances could change the board’s position instantly, and any managerial search will face intense scrutiny from supporters.
Liverpool’s season is at a crossroads. Either Slot sparks a revival that stabilizes the campaign, or the club risks plunging into a full-scale crisis. As supporters wait anxiously, the uncertainty grows, and so does the pressure on everyone involved at Anfield.
Whatever happens next, one thing is certain: Liverpool cannot afford to get this wrong. The future of their project, their momentum, and their identity may depend on who leads the team through the chaos ahead.
