Barcelona Levels Up: A Stunning Surge in Long-Range Goals This Season!
In a thrilling display of attacking prowess, FC Barcelona has made headlines this season with an impressive scoring spree, culminating in a 3-1 triumph over Espanyol. This victory brought the Catalan giants to a remarkable total of 50 goals in the 2024/25 campaign, marking the highest tally after 15 matches since the dawn of the century.
A standout moment in the match was Dani Olmo’s sensational strike from outside the penalty area, marking Barcelona’s ninth long-range goal this season. For context, last season, the team could only manage 10 long-range efforts across a staggering 53 matches.
The contrast with previous seasons is striking. During Lionel Messi’s final year at Barcelona (2020/21), the club scored 17 goals from outside the box, with Messi himself contributing to 10 of those. However, the following seasons saw a dramatic decline, with just eight long-range goals in 2021/22, five in 2022/23, and only 10 last season.
This year, Barcelona’s attacking strategy has evolved, showcasing a newfound confidence and capability to score from distance. Among the notable contributors, Lamine Yamal has shone with three long-range goals, while Pablo Torre has added two. Other players, including Pedri, Robert Lewandowski, Pau Victor, and Olmo, have each netted one long-range goal, reflecting a collective improvement in their shooting from outside the box.
As Barcelona continues its pursuit of success this season, this significant shift in their attacking style enhances their offensive threat, providing a new weapon in their arsenal as they aim for glory.
