Sam Smith just compared ‘incredible’ Wrexham star to David Beckham after Melbourne Victory performance

Wrexham got their pre-season tour of Australia off to a flier with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Melbourne Victory.
Ryan Hardie impressed Wrexham fans as he scored a goal on his debut and looked sharp with his movement in and around the box.
Phil Parkinson experimented with two different sides for each half and Harry Ashfield caught the eye of Wrexham fans with an excellent second half display.
Sam Smith was not involved with the squad for the first match of the tour but has compared the performance of one of his teammates to that of footballing icon David Beckham.

Sam Smith compares Ollie Palmer to David Beckham after Wrexham victory in Melbourne
Wrexham’s record signing has taken to Instagram to heap praise on teammate Ollie Palmer after the striker impressed with his performance in the first half against Melbourne.
Palmer was involved in the opening goal for Thomas O’Connor as his testing cross was parried into the path of the defender, who calmly rolled the ball into the empty net.
Smith commented on Palmer’s Instagram post with: “Love it becks 🔥” after the 33-year-old posted some photos from his time on the first leg of the Australian tour.
Palmer is fighting for his Wrexham future having been told he can leave the club this summer by his manager.
However, Wrexham fans were impressed with Palmer after his promising display in the opening game, the striker was dominant in the air and provided his side with a real focal point to their attack.
Can Ollie Palmer fight his way back into Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham plans?
It is still expected that Palmer joins former teammate Paul Mullin in departing the Racecourse this summer but his performance proved that he still has a lot to offer.
Palmer’s ‘incredible’ record at Wrexham means that he has a lot of credit in the bank with supporters, who would love nothing more than for him to force his way back into the reckoning.
With Modou Faal still not fully recovered from thigh surgery and Smith and Jay Rodriguez absent from the first pre-season clash, Palmer will be hoping for another opportunity against Sydney.
If he can produce a repeat performance, the noise surrounding the 33-year-old will only increase and Parkinson may have to rethink his stance on the experienced forward.
