Former West Brom man John Swift set for move to Championship rivals, contract and medical details revealed

After his departure from West Brom, John Swift looks set to move to a Championship rival as his medical gets underway.
John Swift left West Brom following the conclusion of his contract, with the Baggies opting against offering the midfielder a new deal.
After such a promising spell at Reading in the Championship, it was expected that Swift could transform West Brom, but his brilliant performances arrived more sporadically.
Following his exit from The Hawthorns, Swift has been linked with a move to Derby County, as well as a return to his former side, Reading. However, a surprise contender has now emerged as the frontrunner in the race to claim the 30-year-old, with a move to the south coast set to be concluded soon.

John Swift set for Portsmouth move following West Brom exit
Following his exit from West Brom, John Swift looks set to join Portsmouth ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.
As reported by The Express, Swift is set to complete his medical at Fratton Park today.
The 30-year-old central-midfielder has also reportedly agreed a two-year contract with Portsmouth, with the club holding the option of a third year.
Swift has been seen as a top acquisition due to his vast Championship experience, having accumulated 335 appearances in the second tier, bagging 57 goals and notching 50 assists.

How John Swift could help transform Portsmouth this season
Despite undergoing a difficult spell at West Brom, where his game time and performances were somewhat inconsistent, there is still every reason for Portsmouth fans to be optimistic with the signing of John Swift.
Providing that John Mousinho can restore the midfielder’s confidence, Swift will prove to be a huge asset for Pompey, whether it is about creating chances or bagging goals himself.
Swift needs to be handed the licence to roam, and, only then will he have the opportunity to take control of games, as he successfully did at Reading.
At the age of 30, Swift still has plenty to offer at Championship level, and whilst it is a gamble for Portsmouth to take a chance on him, it could significantly pay dividends for Pompey.
You only need to observe Swift’s record in terms of personal tallies at Championship level to know that he is a brilliant signing for Portsmouth, especially because he will arrive at Fratton Park on a free transfer following his exit at West Brom.
