Chatham Town’s community day takes place at the Bauvill Stadium on Saturday and includes free entry to their pre-season friendly against Coventry City

Saturday’s ‘the perfect time’ to show some support to Chatham Town.

Chats are opening up their doors for free this Saturday when they welcome a Coventry City XI to the Bauvill Stadium – and there’s plenty more going on.

Chatham Town’s community day starts on Saturday morning and it’s a chance to meet the players of both the men’s and senior women’s teams and enjoy live entertainment too.

The club will have family activities on throughout the day, with a bouncy castle, while there will also be a 3 vs 3 event and a technical ballers challenge.

Chats will then take on Coventry City at 3pm for the second season running, a meeting that stems from Harvey Broad’s move to the Championship side for an undisclosed fee last summer.

Looking ahead to their big day, first-team boss and chairman Kevin Hake said: “This Saturday is a big one for us — we’re hosting our Community Day at the club from 11am.

“It’s free entry, and it’s a great chance for people to come down, meet the players and staff, enjoy some family activities, and get a real feel for what Chatham Town is all about.

“We’re also playing Coventry City later in the day, which will proper test against strong opposition, and a great opportunity for supporters to see us in action.

“Whether you’re a lifelong fan or you’ve never been before – Saturday’s the perfect day to come along and join the growing Chats Army.”

It will be Chatham’s fourth pre-season match of the summer and follows on from a 1-0 win over Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium in the week.

Hake’s been busy reshaping their squad this summer and one of the new signings, Kian Moynes, netted the only goal of the game against The Stones.

Midfielder Moynes has joined Chatham from Hastings United, where he has spent the last three seasons playing Isthmian South East football.

He’s stepping up a level at Chatham and made his mark against Maidstone at the Gallagher Stadium, guiding the ball home from a Sam Sene-Richardson set-piece delivery to score the only goal of the game.

Chats have started their pre-season well. It’s three wins from three for Hake’s side, who have yet to concede.

Hake added: “It’s been a really positive start to pre-season.

“The lads have shown great attitude and application so far.

“It’s still early days, but the signs are good — there’s a real togetherness in the group, and we’re starting to see the standards we expect take shape.”

Last Saturday they beat Snodland 2-0 at the Bauvill Stadium with strikes from newcomers Sam Folarin and Ralfi Hand, scoring a goal in each half.

It was another busy day for the club as they also attended the Chatham Carnival prior to the match, where 2,000 complimentary tickets were handed out, to be used at a men’s or women’s match at the club this season.

This Sunday, Chatham Town Women get their pre-season action under way, with a home game against AFC Wimbledon.

Kick-off at the Bauvill Stadium is 2.30pm. Adult tickets cost £4, it’s £2.50 for concessions and £1.50 for under-16s.

It’s the first of six pre-season games lined up for the women’s side. Barking Abbey School are the visitors on Wednesday night.
