Newcastle United claim by rival owner that Man United and Tottenham will hate

Newcastle United could continue to bridge the ‘divide’ between the so-called big six and the rest of the Premier League.
That is the view of outgoing Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor, who previously showed an interest in buying the Magpies before the club’s takeover in 2021.
Textor has since watched Newcastle go on and qualify for the Champions League in two of the last three seasons.
However, Newcastle still face a challenge to upset the established order in a PSR world after Chelsea spent more than the Magpies’ entire income on salaries in the clubs’ most recently published accounts.
Former Newcastle owner Amanda Staveley even claimed other clubs ‘do everything they can’ to make sure the Champions League places are available to ‘as few people as possible’ after new sponsorship rules were introduced after the takeover.
Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan was also among those leading executives who ‘didn’t see the sense’ in increasing the PSR limit last summer while Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has slammed anchoring, which would level the playing field a little, as an ‘absurd’ prospect.
Textor has taken aim at PSR rules for ‘making sure that clubs who do not drive significant revenues cannot catch up’ and the American has been asked about the influence of the usual suspects at top-flight meetings.
“This is where Steve Parish does really well,” Textor told talkSPORT about the Crystal Palace chairman. “It always irritates me that he’s the smartest guy in the room, but he often is.
“He fights very hard for the bottom 14. There is a divide between the six and the 14. Maybe that changes with Newcastle. But I think there’s a pretty good balance.”
