Transfer boost for West Ham as Crystal Palace give up chase for £22m star

- West Ham United have received a boost in their pursuit of Slavia Prague star El Hadji Malick Diouf.
- The Hammers recently had an opening bid worth £17.25 million turned down by the Czech outfit.
- But the Sunday Mirror report that talks continue between the two clubs over a transfer and Crystal Palace have given up their chase for the 20-year-old.
- Palace had two offers rejected for Diouf in January, but they have now turned their focus towards signing Ajax’s Borna Sosa.
- Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Serie A side Atalanta have also expressed interest in a deal for the Senegal international, but West Ham are thought to be leading the race.
- Diouf joined Slavia Prague in January 2024, and has gone on to make 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in the process.
- He played a pivotal role in helping his team win the Czech First League last season, as he bagged seven goals in 41 games.
- Diouf mainly operates as a left-back but can also feature as a left-wing back or winger due to his attacking attributes.
- West Ham are looking to sign a long-term successor to Emerson, who will turn 31 next month and has a year remaining on his contract at the London Stadium.
- They have identified Diouf as an ideal option, but Slavia Prague want a £21.6m package for their star who has three remaining on his current deal.
