Tottenham announce defender transfer, four-year deal signed at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Women are committed to improving their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League season.

The Lilywhites did not capitalise on last season’s early promise and ended up finishing one place above the relegation zone, ultimately costing Robert Vilahamn his job.

Nevertheless, Daniel Levy is committed to developing Spurs Women and clearly stated in a club interview that it will be one of Vinai Venkatesham’s key focus areas.

Spurs have already tied several players down to extended contracts over the summer, and have now confirmed the arrival of a new defender.

Tottenham sign Tōko Koga on a four-year deal

Tottenham’s shortcomings last season were twofold, as only captain Bethany England scored more than three goals, while the Lilywhites were also highly vulnerable at the back.

Spurs conceded the joint-second-most goals in the WSL last season and are looking at the defence as a key area of the pitch that needs improvement.

Their first move was to extend Molly Bartrip’s contract, and Tottenham have now officially announced via X (2 July) the signing of Japan international Tōko Koga on a four-year deal from Feyenoord.

The 19-year-old will wear the number 32 shirt and arrives following a season in which she played all but one game in the Vrouwen Eredivisie and scored three goals.

The talented centre-back began her footballing career with JFA Academy Fukushima before joining the Dutch side in January 2024, and has 19 international caps to her name.

Levy is changing the look of the squad

Tottenham were bitterly disappointed with last season’s return, and are shaping up to change their fortunes and climb up the table.

The signing of Koga continues Tottenham’s focus on building a core of young players ahead of the WSL’s expansion to 14 teams in 2026/27.

Tottenham have also released Rosella Ayane, while Levy is set to name Martin Ho as Vilahamn’s successor as part of a revamp in North London, [The Athletic].
