Saints don’t know £8m jaw-dropping surprise can await them on opening day

Southampton fans may have erased the Lewis O’Brien rumours from their mind but the Englishman they are about to reject may feature in the rival camp on the opening St. Mary’s game.
Sometimes, Southampton’s current decisions don’t just seem to add up, especially in terms of the playing schedule. Earlier, the fans were left in disbelief when the board added a couple of friendly meetings against in-form first division teams and now that might immediately follow games with third-tier promoted Wrexham and a third-tier Northampton Town squad. a
Certainly, the Saints may not have asked for a more jumbled up calendar than the August one. Every week, the senior side is expected to adapt against various oppositions where one error can set the tone for a downpour of slamming criticisms.
Plus, don’t know why this Wrexham opener is appearing like an evening which may see the St. Mary’s fans emptying the stands before the regulation time.
Not wishing for those dull scenes, but the visitors are expected to pose a significant on-field challenge should they land almost-ruled out Saints transfer target Lewis O’Brien.
O’Brien can be the difference-maker against Will Still’s men
As quoted by the Football League World, Wrexham’s fan pundit Liam Grice urged his club to plot an O’Brien’s swoop saying: “Lewis O’Brien is definitely a player I’d be looking to sign. He’d bring immense quality to our midfield, even with the price tag, and I can see him being a success at Wrexham.”
On top of that, none of these raving reviews are exaggerated and it won’t be wrong to put O’Brien in the same underrated category as former midfielder Joe Rothwell. Both of them linked up with newly promoted rosters in 2022 but they couldn’t show their capabilities on the Premier League stage despite being held in high regard among English footballing circles.
Therefore, having an O’Brien-like midfield lynchpin behind the final third can help Wrexham to ask questions to the Southampton defence.
