Lucas Perri can claim his perfect squad number at Leeds United after transfer window departure

Leeds United are looking at Lucas Perri in the summer transfer window and one of his favourite squad numbers is available at Elland Road.

It’s been an active summer transfer window for Leeds United as they add experience, quality and a whole lot of height to Daniel Farke’s squad.

Wolfsburg duo Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw, as well as Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol, have arrived so far but there’s a lot of work left to do.

A left-back is needed following Junior Firpo’s departure, plus a midfielder or two, a playmaker and a striker.

A new goalkeeper is also a top priority after Illan Meslier’s disastrous run of form towards the end of last season.

The likes of Caoimhin Keller and Djordje Petrovic have headed elsewhere but Lucas Perri is on the radar and his ideal No.23 has just become available at Elland Road.

Perri has worn a host of squad numbers during his career, ranging from the typical No.1 to as high as No.40.

One digit he has worn repeatedly, though, is the No.23, which he sported at Sao Paulo and in two different seasons at Lyon while competing in European competition.

The number appears to be a favourite of the Brazilian’s and thanks to Josuha Guilavogui’s (who has had a hand in the signings of Nmecha and Bornauw) departure this summer, it is up for grabs for any new signings.

Perri has also previously worn numbers 12, 16, 18 and 24, all of which are currently vacant.

So he would have plenty of numbers to choose from if he signed for Leeds, but the No.1 is still occupied by Meslier, for now, after a proposed move to Fenerbahce didn’t happen.

Which goalkeepers could Leeds United sign in the transfer window?

Leeds’ hunt for a goalkeeper isn’t going well but they desperately need one before the Premier League season begins.

Meslier’s mistakes nearly cost them promotion last term and they can’t go back to the top flight with him as No.1 if they want to stay up.

Kelleher would have been the perfect signing at just £18m but Brentford was the more appealing move and Leeds didn’t stand a chance of competing with Newcastle United for James Trafford.

With Petrovic reportedly following Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki to Sunderland, Nick Pope likely staying at Newcastle and Marcin Bulka rejecting a move to Leeds, options are starting to run out.

Aside from Perri, Leeds could consider a move for Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega, who is keen to become a first-choice instead of a backup.

But outside of that, obvious options like Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone don’t inspire a lot of excitement.

Leeds will need to pull a great player from out of nowhere before they play Everton in their opening fixture.
