‘Rangers to complete two marquee player sales’ amid ‘£4.5m deal’ reveal

Rangers are getting closer to selling both of their top strikers early in the summer window with Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers set for moves away from Glasgow.

Lille have come in for Igamane, 22, after just one year at Ibrox – while Dessers is wanted by Greek giants AEK Athens.

The duo scored a combined 47 goals in the 2024-25 campaign in a difficult season which saw Philippe Clement sacked mid-season.

Russell Martin has now been appointed as the new head coach and faces his first competitive fixture against Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifying later this month.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed the final figure for Igamane is likely to be around £15million, but insisted there is a sting in the tail for Rangers.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested around £4.5million of the Igamane fee could be due to his former club, AS FAR Rabat.

The Morocco international is just one year into his five-year contract at Rangers but is set to replace Jonathan David at Lille.

Wyness suggested that the sell-on fee “complication” means it “may not be the windfall Rangers had hoped for”.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he’s gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already done.

“The complication is, I believe, he came from a Moroccan club. There’s a big sell-on clause that would go to that club.

“The numbers I’m seeing are £15million, which would appear to be a big number for Rangers. I think there’s going to be about 30% of that going back to the Moroccan club.

“It may not be the windfall that Rangers had hoped for. But it’s going to give Russell some money in the kitty. Cyriel Dessers is another one that’s going to go. I am seeing some movement.

“The new owners are taking time, taking stock, it’s correct. Thelwell’s in there and he’s doing his due diligence on players and things and working with Martin.

“There’s no need to rush, but the clock’s ticking because those European games are coming up very quickly.

“You don’t rush but you try and do it quickly, if you know what I mean. It’s difficult for them. I expect those deals to go through, but not quite as lucrative as people would think from the headline number.” 

Rangers hopeful of completing Coady deal this week

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (27 June) that Rangers remain in advanced talks to sign Leicester City defender Conor Coady.

Sources say all parties are hopeful of concluding the 32-year-old’s Ibrox switch this week.

The centre-back has 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium.
