Martin ‘to take selfish Rangers approach’ as Birmingham owners set for rare rejection

Rangers could end up selling a number of players this summer, as Russell Martin needs to rebuild the squad he inherited.
Martin has a tough job on his hands as the squad needs a revamp across most positions, and business will have to be conducted quickly as pre-season is set to begin soon.
Rangers are yet to resolve the futures of several key stars such as Cyriel Dessers and Nicolas Raskin, while they also need to make decisions on a number of players who were out on loan last season.
Promoted Championship side Birmingham City are set to splash the cash this summer, and they could now play a role in Rangers’ transfer business.

Birmingham want to sign Kieran Dowell
Kieran Dowell spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham in League One, and helped them achieve promotion with some excellent performances.
The 27-year-old fell down the pecking order at Rangers, and could now leave permanently this summer.

Dowell excelled at Birmingham
GIVEMESPORT (July 1) report that Birmingham are keen on signing Dowell on a permanent basis this summer, and have “made their pitch” to Rangers.
Dowell, for his part, is said to favour a move to Birmingham this summer.
However, Martin first wants to see Dowell in action and it may well be that the new Gers gaffer takes a selfish approach – and in the process inflicts a rare rejection on Birmingham’s American owners.

Martin to hold off on more exits
With pre-season now upon us, Rangers have been slow with regard to their incoming signings, and this could affect Martin’s plans.
Martin may now keep the players he has at his disposal for the time being, until new signings come in, and exits for players such as Dowell will likely not be sanctioned until more bodies arrive.
Dowell may end up featuring in Martin’s plans if he can impress in pre-season, and he may now be kept until another midfielder arrives.
This means that Birmingham will have to wait for a decision over Dowell’s future, and this will be a first for them in their ambitious summer as they aim to spend heavily to push further up the table.
