£130m star is now Liverpool’s next no.1 target, he’d be truly “elite” alongside Wirtz – opinion

The prospect of Wirtz linking up with Isak is already generating excitement among Liverpool supporters. The German playmaker’s vision, creativity and technical quality could be the perfect complement to Isak’s clinical finishing.
Last season for Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz registered 16 goals and 15 assists in 45 matches, playing a central role in their historic Bundesliga title triumph. His ability to create chances from wide areas or through the middle makes him a dream supply line for a predator like Isak.
One particular assist against RB Leipzig showcased Wirtz at his creative best — receiving the ball on the left, beating his man, and delivering a perfectly weighted pass for Patrick Schick to score. Many at Anfield are already picturing that same move ending with Isak on the end of it.
Isak’s efficiency in front of goal is backed up by the numbers: according to FBRef, he averaged 0.46 goals per shot on target, highlighting just how ruthless he is when given an opportunity.

A huge investment, but a statement of intent
Should Liverpool complete a deal for Isak, it would take their total spending this summer to unprecedented levels. But few would argue against such ambition. As Statman Dave puts it: “Isak is an elite striker — one of the very best in Europe.”
With Wirtz already through the door, adding Isak could make this Liverpool side even more dangerous, and potentially “virtually unbeatable” in their quest to retain their Premier League crown.
One thing is clear: Liverpool mean business.
