Original Title: Philipp Lahm praises Vinicius: “What impresses me most is…”

Former Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has showered praise on Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr., expressing deep admiration for the Brazilian’s dynamic playing style. Though Lahm retired before Vinicius broke onto the scene, he’s been closely watching his rise to stardom at the Bernabéu.
“What impresses me most is his ability to perform at lightning speed, even when starting from deep in his own half,” Lahm said, highlighting the winger’s explosive pace and sharp execution.
Drawing comparisons with two of his legendary former teammates, Lahm added: “His dribbles, the way he shifts direction… he reminds me a lot of Robben and Ribéry.”
However, the German icon also pointed out a tactical nuance that plays to Vinicius’ strengths—his limited involvement in defensive duties. “He doesn’t track back much, and that actually works to his advantage. It saves his energy for those devastating counter-attacks. He can sprint 70 meters and finish with composure.”
When asked how to contain such an electric player, Lahm offered a bit of advice from a defender’s perspective: “You can’t really shut down Vinicius Jr. completely. But you must block his path to the center. Force him wide, close the angles, and try to push him toward the touchline.”
