Carragher Warns Real Madrid! Alexander-Arnold Leaving Liverpool – New Star or Traitor?

Trent Alexander-Arnold has no issue with wanting to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid. The only problem is that Liverpool is not only losing a great player but loyalty is becoming a cheap concept.

To understand what loyalty truly means, one need look no further than Jamie Carragher, the second-most capped player in Liverpool history, with 737 appearances. The 47-year-old former defender shared his thoughts during an interview on the “Stick To Football” podcast: “I try to put myself in Alexander-Arnold’s shoes and see what I would want. I think I could help Liverpool catch up with United’s league record. I still have seven or eight years left at Liverpool. It would take only three or four years. And I would bring a few more European trophies to Anfield.”

Carragher may be a controversial commentator on Sky Sports, but believe me, his words come from the heart of a player who joined Liverpool at the age of 10 and hung up his boots at Anfield at 35. In the mind of a Scouser like Carragher, there’s only Anfield, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” and the enemy, Manchester United. Not the Ballon d’Or, not lucrative contracts, and certainly not personal ambitions. Carragher represents loyalty, the Kop spirit that is so strong that even Steven Gerrard admires it.

Of course, Carragher’s thinking can’t be imposed on a new-generation player like Alexander-Arnold. Football’s evolving eras have led to different ideologies. Alexander-Arnold is leaving Anfield with an admirable career ideal. He will join Europe’s most legendary club, Real Madrid, playing at right-back, a position currently held by Dani Carvajal, but with aspirations to take on the playmaking role of Toni Kroos, a world-class midfielder. At the Bernabéu, Alexander-Arnold has the opportunity to reach the pinnacle of glory, and of course, there’s the money.

However, Alexander-Arnold’s dream is not just about personal ambitions. It doesn’t encompass the sacred values of the beautiful game, such as loyalty, national pride, and local identity. It’s quite possible that in three or four years, when Alexander-Arnold reaches the age of 30, he may start receiving attractive offers from Saudi Arabia, much like how Jordan Henderson left for Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023.

Alexander-Arnold’s Focus on Real Madrid

This doesn’t mean we should ignore the nine seasons of dedication Alexander-Arnold has given to Liverpool. But it’s important to note that this season, the English defender has shown noticeable decline. He has been overtaken by opponents 53 times so far this season—an unusually high number in the Premier League. The second-worst among full-backs is Leicester’s Victor Kristiansen, who has been passed just 37 times. Why has Alexander-Arnold suddenly become so vulnerable? The answer will only leave Liverpool fans bitter.
